Recommended Reading (and Viewing)

  1. Spencer says:

    Nice list Sarah!
I’ll be sure to check out some of what I haven’t read/watched.

    I would also recommend-

    Books:
Eating Animals (2009) – Jonathan Safran Foer
Silent Spring (1962) – Rachel Carson
Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving
Making Wild Wines & Meads: 125 Unusual Recipes Using Herbs, Fruits, Flowers & More (1999)
    Winemaker’s Recipe Handbook (1976) – Raymond Massaccesi
Home Cheese Making: Recipes for 75 Delicious Cheeses (2002) – Ricki Carroll

    Documentaries:
Our Daily Bread (2005) – Nikolaus Geyrhalter
Flow: For Love of Water (2008) – Irena Salina

  2. Spencer says:

oops you already had the Ball book.
    (it’s a must have anyway!)

  3. Thanks so much for the suggestions Spencer! When I listed the Blue Gold documentary, I actually had Flow: For Love of Water in mind (a great, albeit scary documentary). I’m into these cheese and wine recipe book suggestions as well; add in beer and what more do you need to know how to make in life? Kidding (sort of). Other suggestions continuously welcome!

  4. John Kuhner says:

Wendell Berry should probably be on this list too. Take a look at this (very brief) essay, which more or less contains all Michael Pollan’s recommendations. Talk about prophetic! It’s from the 1980s.
